Have we forgotten how to imagine the future?

Michael Müller argues that since the end of the Cold War, the West stopped telling positive future stories—believing democracy and market economy were the “end of history.” But without new visions, we risk getting stuck.

He identifies four kinds of future stories:
1.Reactive: Monster in the house (fear-driven) & Adaptation (coping with change).
2. Proactive: The Quest (exploring the unknown) & New Visions (imagining better futures).

The challenge for the next generation is to create inspiring stories that guide us toward more sustainable, inclusive, and hopeful futures.
